New Delhi: An Indian student has tested positive for the novel coronavirus or COVID-19 in Dubai, news agency IANS has reported quoting health authorities there. The 16-year-old student contracted the infection from his parent who had travelled overseas and reported symptoms five days after returning to Dubai, the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) said.
With the Indian student testing positive, the total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has risen to 27. “The student and the family members have been quarantined in hospital, are stable and recovering well. All other family members, too, have been quarantined,” DHA said in a statement.
DHA is conducting tests and monitoring the students, staff and workers of the school who are likely to have somehow come into contact with the affected student. Classes in the school have been suspended for now and it is being sanitised as per international best practices in preventive measures against coronavirus.
Meanwhile, the Indian High Group of School has announced that it will be closed from Thursday as a preventive measure. The aforementioned case of coronavirus is reported to have taken place in a nearby school.
This case of Indian student testing positive for coronavirus comes at a time when the spread has spread to different parts of the world, having originated from China. India thus far has reported 29 confirmed cases of coronavirus.
