Washington: US President Donald Trump, after assuming power, is taking a slew of decisions in favour of Israel. According to the latest report, Trump has directed the US military to lift the ban on the supply of 2,000-pound (907 kg) bombs to Israel. To recall, the former president Joe Biden had imposed the ban. According to a report by The Guardian, Trump stated on Air Force One, “We have released them. We will give them to Israel today. They have paid for it, and they have been wanting these bombs for a long time. These bombs were kept in storage.”
According to the reports, Joe Biden was concerned that Israel might use these bombs against the general population living in Rafah, Gaza. Hence, he stopped the delivery of bombs. The ban was imposed during the Israel-Gaza conflict. When Trump was asked why he was supplying these destructive bombs, he responded, “Because Israel bought them.” A 2,000-pound bomb, when detonated, can cause massive destruction in an area.
When Trump was asked why bombs were being sent to Israel amid a ceasefire, he responded, “Because they had purchased them.” Earlier on Saturday, Trump had said on Truth Social, “Many things ordered by Israel and paid for were not sent by Biden. They are now on their way.”
Reuters had reported last year that after the October 7, 2023, attack by Palestinian Hamas militants from Gaza, the Biden administration had provided Israel with thousands of 2,000-pound bombs. However, one shipment was held back.
