Elon Musk recently met with Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations. According to reports, the crucial meeting took place a day before the SpaceX chief was appointed as the new joint head of Donald Trump’s cost-cutting department. The meeting was held at Ambassador Amir Saeed Iravani’s residence in New York, CBS News reported, citing anonymous sources. The two dignitaries discussed ways to ease tensions between the two countries.
However, it is still unclear whether the designated Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Mike Walz, staunch opponents of Iran, were aware of the meeting.
The New York Times reported, quoting two Iranian officials, that the meeting between Elon Musk and the Iranian ambassador was ‘positive.’
As America doesn’t share diplomatic relations with Tehran, this meeting has opened a new channel for communication, helping Iran avoid direct meetings with US officials. However, what kind of relations the two countries will have in the future is still under shadow. This meeting between Musk and the Iranian ambassador could prove to be a turning point in their relations.
Meanwhile, Iran has assured it will not attempt to kill president-elect Donald Trump. The assurance came in response to America’s warning that any attack on Trump would be considered “an act of war,” NBC reported.
