Riyadh: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made a statement about settling Palestinians in Saudi Arabia. Now, Saudi Arabia has responded sharply to this. Bin Trad Al-Sadoun, a member of Saudi Arabia’s powerful Shura Council, mocked Netanyahu’s suggestion. He also proposed that U.S. President Donald Trump should settle Israelis in Alaska and later in Greenland.
Al-Sadoun criticized Donald Trump’s perspective on the Middle East and stated that ignoring expert advice and dismissing dialogue leads to poor decisions.
In an article published in the Saudi newspaper Okaz on Friday, February 7, Al-Sadoun warned that ‘Zionists (Jewish nationalists) and their allies’ will fail to manipulate Saudi leadership through media pressure and political manoeuvers.
Criticizing the Trump administration, Al-Sadoun said that America’s official foreign policy will attempt to illegally occupy sovereign land and ethnically cleanse its inhabitants. This is Israel’s perspective and is considered a crime against humanity.
“Anyone who has witnessed Israel’s rise and its continuation path knows clearly that this plan was of course prepared and approved by the Zionist unit and handed over to their colleague to read from the White House podium. Zionists and their supporters should understand well that they will not be able to trap the Saudi leadership and government in the web of media gimmicks and false political pressures,” the senior Saudi official added.
The Saudi Shura Council is an advisory assembly that advises the king on legislative and policy matters but does not have legislative authority. Its members are appointed by the Saudi King, who discuss legislation, economic plans and social policies.
This Thursday, February 6, Netanyahu stated in an interview with Israel’s Channel 14 that a Palestinian state could be established in Saudi Arabia, as they have a lot of land there. Netanyahu’s comments came after a statement from Riyadh, which said that Saudi Arabia would normalize relations with Israel only when the path towards a Palestinian state is clear. The Saudi Foreign Ministry condemned Netanyahu’s statement as racist and anti-peace, calling it a gross violation of Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty.
