JD Vance’s Islamabad trip put on hold; Uncertainty and suspense linger on US-Iran peace talks

Uncertainty looms large
New Delhi: US Vice President JD Vance has cancelled his trip to Pakistan's capital, Islamabad, for the much-awaited peace talks with Iran. The cancellation has once again created an atmosphere of uncertainty, suspense, and insecurity as the ceasefire between the United States and Iran is set to expire on 22 April.
It is feared that if there is no further discussion between the two warring sides, then the armed conflict will resume and will once again hit the global economy at an even larger scale than what was witnessed during the 40-day war.
Iran Too Has Not Confirmed
Meanwhile, the Iranian delegation also does not appear ready to travel to Islamabad at this time. Amidst this diplomatic tug-of-war, the current ceasefire is set to expire on Wednesday, as mentioned above. However, there has been no official confirmation from the Iranian side regarding their participation in the talks. Iranian media outlets have clarified that no delegation has departed for Islamabad. Questions are also being raised regarding the delay in the U.S. Vice President's visit.
Previous Round of Talks
It is worth noting that the first round of talks a marathon 21-hour session held in the Pakistani capital ended inconclusively. During those discussions, J.D. Vance accused Iran of failing to accept U.S. conditions. Vance stated that Iran was unwilling to abandon its nuclear program, which ultimately prevented an agreement from being reached.
