Man-made mountain to bring rainfall in United Arab Emirates!

For UAE which does not get enough rain, the mountain may prove helpful by quenching the desert's thirst.

May 3: United Arab Emirates (UAE) is on their new ambitious project that may bring rains in the desert. UAE is in the first stage of a man-made mountain development project to increase rainfall in the country. Reportedly, the UAE government has contracted the US-based National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) to study about building the man-made mountain which will help increase rainfall in the region.

Mountains play a major role in attracting rain clouds by blocking moist air and pushing it up thus leading to its cooling. The air then condense and turn liquid and fall on earth as rain.

Although building a mountain may seem like an ambitious plan, this is not the first time, a country decided build nature. Netherlands had also planned a similar project. The cost of the 1.2 mile-high mountain was estimate to be $230 billion.(ALSO READ: China lands ‘test flight’ on artificial island in disputed South China Sea)

Reportedly, Roelof Bruintjes of US-based National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) said, “What we are looking at is basically evaluating the effects on weather through the type of mountain, how high it should be and how the slopes should be. We will have a report of the first phase this summer as an initial step.”
