Riyadh: A major arms deal may take place between the United States and Saudi Arabia. The U.S. is preparing to provide weapons to Saudi Arabia worth over $100 billion. U.S. President Donald Trump is set to visit Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) next month. This deal between Saudi Arabia and the U.S. could occur just before or during Trump’s visit. Major American arms manufacturers will be involved in this deal. These companies will supply Saudi Arabia with aircraft and missiles. This deal could change not only the dynamics between Saudi Arabia and the U.S. but also the entire equation of the Middle East.

The Reuters news agency has reported, citing sources, information about the Saudi-American deal. The deal may involve major American defense companies such as Lockheed Martin, RTX Corp, Boeing, Northrop Grumman, and General Atomics. These companies could provide Saudi Arabia with weapons such as C-130 transport aircraft, missiles, and radar systems. However, the likelihood of Saudi Arabia receiving Lockheed Martin’s F-35 fighter jet is low. The terms of the proposed Saudi-American agreement are still not known.

During Joe Biden’s presidency, discussions had occurred regarding defense agreements between Saudi Arabia and the United States. The purpose of this deal was also to normalize relations between Saudi Arabia and Israel. Biden wanted to prevent Saudi Arabia from strengthening its ties with China and purchasing weapons from Beijing. The conditions of the proposed Saudi-American agreement are still unknown. The White House and Saudi officials have not commented on reports related to this deal so far. An American defense official told Reuters that security cooperation is an important part of the U.S.-Saudi relationship. However, he did not mention the names of any defense companies.

Through this arms deal, the United States aims to strengthen its presence in the Arab world.
