An anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi has again issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Aleema Khan, the sister of Pakistan former Prime Minister and Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan due to her repeated absence from court proceedings.

Lahore: What comes as bad news for Imran Khan, the former prime minister of Pakistan, who has been in prison for more than two years, the Anti-Terrorism Court in Rawalpindi has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for Aleema Khan, the sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder. It is the eighth arrest warrant against Aleema due to her repeated absence from court proceedings, The Express Tribune reported.

What Is The Case Against Aleema Khan?

A case was lodged against Aleema at the Sadiqabad Police Station. The case accuses her of participating in anti-government protests and vandalism.

What Did The ATC Court Say?

ATC Judge Amjad Ali Shah instructed the Chairman of the Capital Development Authority and Islamabad Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa to present a detailed report on Aleema Khan’s properties. The court further directed Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) to provide details of companies or shares registered under her name.

Aleema’s Computerised National Identity Card, her passport and all her bank accounts were blocked as she ignored warrants and didn’t appear before the court.

What Did Prosecution Argue?

The prosecution argued that Imran Khan’s sister is deliberately is not supporting in judicial process. As Khan is not appearing before the court the recording of witness statements is getting delayed.

It is to be noted that the court had issued non-bailable warrants against Khan on October 14, October 20, and October 22 after Aleema failed to attend proceedings. The court had also dismissed her lawyer’s plea for exemption from personal appearance.

The sister of the former Pakistan PM had been granted interim bail by the court on September 18 regarding the November 26 D-Chowk protest case.

The protest at D-Chowk, which was held on November 26, 2023, in response to Imran Khan’s ‘final call’ for countrywide protests. The ‘final call’ aimed at reinstating PTI’s electoral mandate and securing the release of jailed party leaders. The gathering was eventually dispersed by a police operation.
