New Delhi: Major General Mohammad Ashraful Islam Siddique, chief of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has termed the reports of attacks on minorities in Bangladesh as “exaggeration.” He asserted that the actual situation is not as severe as it is being portrayed. He further stated that the Bangladesh is a pluralistic society where people of all religions live together. He emphasized that the government is making every possible effort to ensure the safety of minorities.
He also stated that some incidents have been presented with exaggeration by the media and other sources, leading to misconceptions at the international level.
The Muhammad Yunus-led Bangladesh government has stated that it is committed to providing safety to the minority communities in the country. According to the reports, the Bangladesh government has ordered increased security for religious sites, strengthened law enforcement, and taken strict action against any form of violence.
It is important to note that Major General Siddique’s statement comes at a time when Bangladesh has faced international criticism over attacks on minority communities. Siddique, however, clarified that the government and security forces are working hard to prevent such incidents and are committed to improving the situation.
According to the Border Security Force (BSF) press release, the 55th Director General-level Border Coordination Conference between India’s Border Security Force (BSF) and Bangladesh’s Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) began in New Delhi on February 17, 2025.
The four-day conference, running from February 17 to February 20, aims to address key border-related issues and enhance coordination between the two border security forces. The BSF delegation is led by BSF Director General Daljit Singh Chaudhary, while the BGB delegation is headed by Major General Mohammad Ashraful Islam Siddique, OSP, BSP, SUP, BGBM, NDC, PSC, MFIL, Director General of Border Guard Bangladesh.
