NATO vs Russia: Amid escalating tensions between NATO and Russia, after Poland shot down Russian attack drones that entered its airspace, Moscow has initiated joint military exercises with Belarus on NATO’s eastern borders. Poland has been put on high alert due to the military exercises. This military exercise – called Zapad-2025, is being conducted near the Polish border.

Poland has been put on high alert as Russia and Belarus are conducting a joint military exercise near its border. The tensions between Warsaw and Moscow started when, Puland shot down Russian killer drones, stating that they breached its airspace.
On Thursday, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that France has sent three Rafale fighter jets to help Poland protect it airspace. Taking to X, President Macron said, “The security of the European continent is our top priority. We will not give in to Russia’s increasing intimidation,” he said.
Amid escalating tensions between Russia and NATO member country Poland, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held a telephonic conversation with his police counterpart Sikorski. He reiterated India’s stand for an immediate cessation of hostilities.
The Russian Defence Ministry has said that both countries are practising a joint defence exercise against an attack. In the second phase of the military drill, Russia and Belarus will jointly practice to retain their land and destroy the enemy.
Notably, Belarus shares its borders with three NATO member countries – Poland, Lithuania and Latvia. According to Kremlin, Office of Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that it is a normal military drill and Europe’s concerns about it are linked to its hostility towards Russia.
The Russian Defence Ministry clarified that the drones that entered Poland’s airspace on Wednesday were sent to attack the western part of Ukraine and were not intended to target anyone in Poland.
US President Donald Trump stated that the entry of the Russian drone into Poland was a mistake. He further expressed his concerns, stating that he is not happy with whatever has happened in this matter.
