Russia-Ukraine war: In a significant development possibly impacting the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, the United States of America under the leadership of Donald Trump has sent 90 Patriot Missile Defense Systems to help Ukraine. Notably, the US has sent the missile defense systems which were earlier stationed in Israel. Also, it should be noted that the defence systems would first be refurbished and then sent to Ukraine.

Since the onset of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Ukraine had been receiving financial support from the United States, which has recently ceased. Nevertheless, the acquisition of 90 Patriot missile defense systems from the US will significantly benefit Ukraine.

The Patriot Missile Defense System is a terrestrial air missile defense system capable of intercepting incoming missiles. Additionally, it can function as a missile launcher.

History of Russo-Ukrainian War

The Russo-Ukrainian War began in February 2014. Following Ukraine’s Revolution of Dignity, Russia occupied and annexed Crimea from Ukraine and supported pro-Russian separatists fighting the Ukrainian military in the Donbas War. These first eight years of conflict also included naval incidents and cyberwarfare. In February 2022, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine and began occupying more of the country, starting the biggest conflict in Europe since World War II. The war has resulted in a refugee crisis and tens of thousands of deaths.
