Saudi Arabia authorities are now closely checking the movement of pilgrims, and Umrah operators in the UAE are advising people to book their transport and accommodation before applying for a visa, Khaleej Times reported. The new checks at Jeddah and Madinah airports make sure that pilgrims have a valid Umrah visa, confirmed hotel bookings, and licensed transport.
Pilgrims travelling to Makkah through Jeddah will face security checks to confirm their bookings. While it’s still possible to travel without pre-bookings, operators could face fines or system blocks. These rules are part of Saudi Arabia’s efforts to stop illegal taxis near airports and pilgrimage routes. Only prepaid taxis booked through the official portal or tickets for the Haramain Express high-speed train will be allowed.
