New York, Nov 1: Eight persons were killed and several others were left injured as an attacker drove a rented truck onto a bike path near the site of the World Trade Center memorial in Manhattan. The suspect has been identified as 29-year-old Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov, an Uzbek national who came to US in 2010. He has been taken into custody. (Click here for LIVE updates)

Unconfirmed pro-ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) social media sites claim the New York terror attack as one of their own.

The President of the United States Donald Trump condemned the New York Terror Attack and said that he will not allow Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group to “return or enter” in the country.

On the other hand, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said at a news conference, that as per the information authorities have, the attack in New York is being believed to be an ‘act of terror’.  “This was a particularly cowardly act of terror aimed at innocent civilians,” he said.

Former US President Barack Obama also took to Twitter and expressed grief over the attack. “Michelle and I are thinking of the victims of today’s attack in NYC and everyone who keeps us safe. New Yorkers are as tough as they come,” he tweeted.

The attack was even condemned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi who expressed grief over the incident on Twitter. Notably, no Indian has been reported to be killed or injured in the attack as of yet.

Soon after the attack, Twitter users took to the micro-blogging site to condemn the incident. Some even expressed their anger over the incident which left eight including Argentines and Belgium nationals dead.

As per reports, the deceased include six males. Two children are also said to be among those injured.
