New Zealand: An earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale struck near New Plymouth in New Zealand, as reported by the United States Geological Survey.

It is one of the strongest earthquakes in New Zealand since a magnitude 7.8 tremor struck near Kaikoura in November 2016, which killed two people.

It must be noted that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex aka the Royal couple are currently spending day three of the New Zealand leg of their tour. However, there have been no reports either the Duke or Duchess have been affected by the quake.

More details are awaited.

On Monday, an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.3 struck off the southern tip of South America.

The quake, which hit at 2:54 am local time Monday, was centred in the ocean, 312.9 kilometres (194 miles) south-southeast of Ushuaia, Argentina, and 552 kilometres (342 miles) south-southeast of Punta Arenas, Chile.
