Dalori, Feb 1: The formidable Islamic terrorist group Boko Haram on Saturday killed 86 villagers in this North Eastern town of Nigeria, by setting them on fire, claimed reports. Several children were also amongst the those who were burnt alive. Boko Haram extremists on Monday fire bombed the huts of these villagers. The scene at the village is like that of a purgatory with scores of charred and blackened bodies with bullet wounds littered the streets of the village.
Camps near the Dalori village and housing about 2,500 refugees also came under attack. The villages are just miles away from Maiduguri, which is the largest city in Nigeria’s north east and is also the birth place of the group, which arguably the most powerful in the world. The shooting, burning and explosions from three suicide bombers went on for four hours, in unprotected areas, claimed survivors. Also Read: Nigerian troops set free 31 hostages from Boko Haram
The violence continued as three female suicide bombers blew themselves up amongst the villagers. Troops did eventually reach the scene at about 8.30 PM but were unable to control the attackers, who were better armed than the soldiers. Later the attackers retreated when the soldiers came with reinforcements. The incident could be reported only after journalists could visit the scene of the carnage on Sunday. Villagers told reporters that they feared another attack.
The terrorist group has been attacking soft targets, ever since the military started a campaign to drive them out of villages and towns in Nigeria, last year. The attacks have killed around 20,000 people ever since and left around 2.5 million people destitute and homeless.
