Xi Jinping, since he came to power in 2012, has been fiercely battling corruption in China, even though numerous setbacks have come his way. Now in his third tenure, Jinping has stepped up his fight against corruption even more. A story from CNN highlighted the government’s new aggressive stance by reporting on its setting up about 200 fresh Liuzhi centers – a place where detainees, for about six months, are not granted access to legal help or family visits.

The report ignores facts and is full of prejudice, Lin Jian, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson, said during a regular press conference.
The wide-ranging Pentagon report said that between July and December 2023, at least 15 high-ranking Chinese military officers and defense industry executives were removed from their posts.
“In 2023, the PLA experienced a new wave of corruption-related investigations and removals of senior leaders which may have disrupted its progress toward stated 2027 modernization goals,” the report said, using an acronym for the People’s Liberation Army (PLA).
