Peshawar, Aug 16: While attempting to take a selfie with her parents at a hilly tourist spot in Beesian village in Pakistan, an 11-year-old Pakistani girl on Tuesday drowned in the famous Kunhar River. The family had come on a holiday from Punjab. Trying to save their daughter, her parents drowned too. Officials reported that the incident occurred in the Kunhar River, which is popular for white-water rafting flows through Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. According to the local police officer Arshad Khan, the girl was Safia Atif and was trying to take a selfie along the river when she slipped and fell. Also, Safia’s mother Shazia Atif then jumped in to save Safia but drowned. Khan further added seeing his wife and daughter drowning, Safia’s father Atif Hussain also jumped to save both of them but got drowned too. However, the dead bodies of the mother and daughter have been recovered. They are survived by a nine-year-old daughter and six-year-old son who witnessed the event. Both the kids are in the protective custody of the local administration and will be handed over to their family members when they arrive. The incident was confirmed by other administration officials and family members of the deceased. Kunhar River, being a tourist destination witnesses many such incidences as tourists have no idea about the depth of the river.
