Islamabad: At least 14 passengers were shot dead by around 15-20 armed assailants in camouflage uniform who offloaded them from a bus travelling in a highway in Pakistan’s Balochistan province. The incident reportedly took place on Thursday when five or six buses that were travelling between Karachi and Gwadar on the Makran Coastal highway was stopped by the assailants, reported Dawn news.
While a bus reached the Buzi Top area, gunmen stopped the vehicle, checked the identity cards of the passengers and then offloaded at least 14 of them and shot them, officials were quoted as saying.
Two passengers managed to escape the massacre and reached the nearest check-post. They were later shifted to Ormara Hospital for medical treatment.
An investigation in the incident is currently underway. It is being held by the law enforcement personnel who had already reached the spot. The motive behind the killings and the identity of the victims are yet to be ascertained.
A similar incident took place in Balochistan’s Mastung area in 2015 when armed men kidnapped about two dozen passengers from two Karachi-bound coaches and killed 19 of them. Last week, a terror attack targeting the Hazara community in Quetta left at least 20 dead.
