Islamabad: In an unprecedented move, the Pakistani Air Force carried out lethal airstrikes in Afghanistan on Tuesday night. According to the statement released by Pakistan, the strikes were aimed at the hideouts of the terrorist group TTP. Meanwhile, Afghanistan’s Taliban government claimed that the attacks caused civilian casualties and expressed strong displeasure. The government of Afghanistan has vowed to retaliate and has increased activity along the border.

Afghanistan has also ramped up the deployment of tanks and other heavy weaponry near the Pakistan border.

Amid the escalating tensions with Pakistan, the Taliban government has deployed heavy weaponry in border areas. According to the Kabul Frontline report, heavy and anti-aircraft weapons are being sent towards the border. This comes after Afghanistan’s Defense Minister Muhammad Yaqoob Mujahid issued a warning to Pakistan. Mujahid stated clearly that Pakistan’s airstrikes will not be ignored and will be met with a strong response.

Afghanistan Vows To Retaliate:

The Afghan Taliban is likely to retaliate strongly to Pakistan’s attacks, according to the experts. A faction within the Taliban also believes that a tough response against Pakistan could act as a deterrent to future attacks. This has escalated tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

On Tuesday, Pakistan’s military carried out strikes near South Waziristan in the Bermal district of Afghanistan’s Paktika province. Pakistan claims these attacks targeted TTP (Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan) hideouts, accusing the group of repeatedly carrying out terror attacks in Pakistan while seeking refuge in Afghanistan. These airstrikes are also said to be part of the Pakistan Army’s Operation Azm-e-Istehkam.
