Quetta, August 8: The Pakistani police had confirmed a deadly bomb blast that took place in Pakistan’s tribal area of Quetta had killed at least 30 people and had left many injured. The explosion took place at the main gate of a government-run hospital in Quetta on Monday morning when several patients were present at the spot.
Afzal Khan, a senior police official reportedly said to Associated Press that around 30 people died in Monday’s blast and more than dozens of people were injured. The attack took place shortly after Advocate Bilal Anwar Kasi, a prominent lawyer of Quetta was shot dead by an unidentified man, earlier in the day and was brought to the same hospital.
Reports suggest that the blast took place when more than 50 mourners were standing near the casualty department of the hospital, accompanying Advocate Bilal Anwar Kasi’s body, when the bomb went off. One of the journalist who was present at the spot reportedly said, there were blood all over the place.
According to Pakistan’s Dawn, Balochistan Home Minister Sarfaraz Bugti said, that the attack of Quetta was carried out by a suicide bomber. (Also Read: 25 killed, 35 injured in blast at hospital in Pakistan)
No one has claimed responsibility of the attack. Several lawyers including the former president of Balochistan Bar Association Baz Mohammed Kakar were injured in the explosion and aerial firing could have been heard from the spot, Dawn reported.
The police had cordoned off the area after the blast and emergency has been declared by the Balochistan government. In last few months lawyers have been targeted in Pakistan quite frequently. Last week a lawyer, Jahanzeb Alvi, was shot dead by unknown armed men.
