Pakistan Blast: Two people were killed and five others injured in a motorcycle bomb blast in Khuzdar City of Balochistan in southwest Pakistan on Sunday. According to the local police, the blast occurred near Umer Umar Farooq Chowk, killing two people and injuring five, including a woman.
Khuzdar City is located on the main highway connecting the provincial capital Quetta with the port city of Karachi in neighbouring Sindh province.
Nobody has taken responsibility for the blast which took place when a bomb placed in a parked motorcycle went off in the middle of a commercial centre, Khuzdar Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Arif Khan, according to Pakistan-based ARY News.
Khan said a woman and two police officers were among the wounded.
The bombing is the latest in the series of attacks to hit Balochistan province, where militants have tried to target a naval facility and a government building in recent weeks.
For years, Balochistan has been the scene of a low-level insurgency by groups demanding independence from the central government in Islamabad. Although the government says it has quelled the insurgency, violence in the province has persisted.
Last Saturday, an improvised explosive device killed one person and wounded 14, including three soldiers.
Sarfraz Bugti, the chief minister of Balochistan, denounced the explosion and called it a barbaric strike that targeted innocent civilians. He vowed that perpetrators of the bombing will be punished and terrorism will be eradicated from the region.
Meanwhile, a police report on Sunday revealed that a woman was among the five Chinese engineers who were killed last month in northwest Pakistan when a suicide bomber targeted their vehicle that was neither bullet nor bomb-proof.
On March 26, a vehicle-borne suicide bomber targeted the convoy of Chinese engineers in the remote Besham area of the restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province when they were being driven to a construction site of the Dasu Hydroelectric power station in Kohistan district of the same province.
Five Chinese nationals and their Pakistani driver were killed in the attack.
A female engineer was among the five Chinese nationals killed in the attack, the Express Tribune newspaper reported on Sunday, citing the police report.
The police report, which has been sent to the federal government, said that the bus targeted in the attack was travelling at a distance of 15 feet from the other bus and fell into a 300-feet-deep ditch after the suicide bomber crashed his explosives-laden vehicle into the vehicle carrying the victims on the Karakoram Highway, Geo News reported on Sunday.
The report said that the vehicle carrying Chinese nationals was neither bullet nor bomb-proof.
