Pakistan-Israel relations: Pakistan, akin to a majority of Muslim nations, does not have diplomatic relations with Israel, and has not recognized the Jewish state as a “legitimate” country. However, the situation could change in the near future as Pakistan is developing closer strategic ties with the United States under the current Trump administration, even as a senior Israeli diplomat dropped hints that Islamabad was at least considering the proposal amid US President Donald Trump’s peace plan to end the Israel-Gaza war.
According to Israeli Ambassador to India, Reuven Azar, Pakistan is likely to recognize Israel in the future. Asked whether Pakistan would recognize Israel, Azar expressed hope that Pakistan and other Muslim and Arab countries build cordial ties with Tel Aviv in the near future.
“In the future, Pakistan will also recognize Israel. I hope they will. Ultimately, it is a very important step that Arab and Muslim countries are committed to this vision of de-radicalization. I think it is a good step, and we will see what happens,” the Israeli envoy said after Trump unveiled his 20-point peace plan for Gaza during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
According to geopolitical experts, Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan aims to foster better ties between Israel and Muslim countries, and could play a major role in shaping the future of Pakistan-Israel relations as both countries have close ties with the US. Additionally, the formation of an independent Palestinian state, envisioned in Trump’s plan, could ease tensions between Israel and countries like Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, which have traditionally been hostile towards the Jewish nation.
Experts believe that Trump’s Gaza peace plan is an extension of the Abraham Accords, which could bring more Muslim countries closer to Israel as both Islamabad and Riyadh have stated that they would consider diplomatic ties with Tel Aviv if a Palestinian state is established.
Pakistan does not have diplomatic or trade ties with Israel as Islamabad does not recognize the Jewish state as a legitimate country, a policy which stems from Pakistan’s strong support for the Palestinian movement. Pakistan often votes in favor of Palestine, and against Israel, at the United Nations and other global bodies, and consider the formation of the Jewish nation as an illegal occupation of Palestinian lands
