Islamabad: Tensions between Afghanistan’s Taliban regime and Pakistan’s government are increasing steadily. There have been several rounds of clashes on the border between the Taliban and Pakistani soldiers, in which many Pakistani soldiers have been killed. Pakistan has taken aggressive action many times to repel the Taliban, but the Taliban has also responded aggressively. This has shaken Pakistan and Islamabad has planned to take revenge on Afghan citizens.

Pakistan’s Interior Ministry has issued an order asking all Afghan citizen card holders living in the country to leave the country by March 31.

‘Leave by March 31’

Pakistan is so immersed in its frustration to take revenge on the Taliban that it has warned that Afghan cardholders who do not leave by March 31 will be expelled from April 1. Islamabad has accused Afghan nationals present in the country of involvement in terrorist attacks and crimes.

Afghans are the largest migrant group in Pakistan, having fled here due to decades of violent conflicts.

Pakistan’s Interior Ministry said in a statement, “Pakistan has been a generous host and continues to fulfill its commitments and obligations as a responsible state. Individuals residing in Pakistan must complete all legal formalities.”

More than 800,000 people have Afghan cards. According to United Nations data, over 800,000 Afghans in Pakistan possess Afghan citizen cards.

Approximately 1.3 million other Afghans are registered with the Pakistani government and have a separate proof of residence. Pakistan launched a campaign to repatriate foreign nationals in 2023.

The United Nations states that since the campaign began, more than 800,000 Afghans have returned to Afghanistan from Pakistan. During the 40 years of conflict in Afghanistan, millions of Afghans crossed the border into Pakistan.
