Pakistan Terrorism: Pakistan has jumped to the second spot in the Global Terrorism Index (GTI) 2025 as the neighboring country witnessed a massive 45 percent surge in the number of people killed in terror attacks in 2024, As per the GTI report published by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP), 1,081 people lost their lives in terrorist-related incidents in Pakistan in 2024, an increase of 45 percent compared to last year.

According to the index released Wednesday, Pakistan witnessed 517 terrorist attacks in 2023, which surged to 1,099 in 2024, killing 1,081 people.

Developed by IEP founder Steve Killelea, the Global Terrorism Index is annual report published by the institute, and provides a comprehensive summary of key global trends and patterns in terrorism since 2000.

In the 2025 report, the index noted that the number of countries where terror attacks were witnessed, has increased from 58 to 66, a worrying trend as it point to the inability of global law enforcement agencies to curb the menace of terrorism, which seems to be rearing its  ugly head once again, following a brief lull that was witnessed after the fall of the Islamic State (IS) terror group.

As per the report, terrorism has surged in 45 countries, while 45 nations across the globe have witnessed a marked improvement in 2024. Additionally, the world’s four deadliest terrorist groups intensified their attacks in 2024, resulting in an 11 percent increase in deaths from terrorist attacks, the report revealed.
