London, September 26: A “small scale explosion” in a bag triggered a “panic and stampede” at the Tower Hill Station on the London Underground train. Soon after the incident was reported, Tower Hill Station was evacuated.
However, officials say the fire was ‘nothing serious.
“Incident at Tower Hill station is not suspicious. Fire believed to have been caused by mobile phone charger overheating. @LondonFire,” British police said.
Some reports said that there are reports of an ‘acid smell’ following the blast – with pictures of a flaming object being seen in the carriage.
Some eyewitnesses said that the explosion has come from phone charger or battery pack.
The minor explosion was enough to spark a panic reaction, considering the famed transportation system had witnessed a terror attack just two weeks ago.
“Tower Hill Station closed after a small scale explosion in a bag, passengers fled in panic, injuries n stampede,” Murtuza Ali a local reporter tweeted.
Officers have been called to Tower Hill station following a fire alert. The station is closed whilst officers and @LondonFire respond.

“Severe delays between Barking to Earl’s Court due to a fire alert at Tower Hill. Tower Hill station is closed,” officials tweeted.
British Transport Police and London Fire Brigade also confirmed that the explosion was caused by a mobile phone charger that blew up after overheating.
