New Delhi, Aug 14: The city of Pune in Maharashtra was on Monday declared the most liveable city in India on the Ease of Living Index, however, no Indian city has qualified in the list of “world’s most liveable city”. The annual survey, which was revealed on Monday, ended the seven-year reign of Australia’s Melbourne and placed Austria’s Vienna city as the most liveable city in the world. This is the first time a European metropolis has topped the list of 140 cities ranked in the world’s most liveable. Vienna, Austria’s capital, scored 99.1 out of 100 in the index replacing Melbourne into second place on 98.4 points. Melbourne had been grabbing the top ranking for the last seven years. The other cities that have been ranked in the top 10 include Osaka (3rd), Tokyo (7th) in Japan, Sydney (5th) in Australia and Toronto (8th) in Canada among others. Australia and Canada seem to have dominated the top 10 of the rankings of world’s most liveable cities. “Those that score best tend to be mid-sized cities in wealthier countries,” a researcher said. No city from the United States has been placed in the top 10 rankings of the most liveable cities in the world. It should be noted that Osaka (3rd) and Tokyo (7th) both have climbed the rankings for this year’s list. Major financial centres such as London and New York have been ranked 48th and 57th positions, respectively.

The worst cities to live in are Damascus, which appears at the bottom of the list of the world’s most liveable cities. Damascus in Syria is followed by Dhaka, Lagos, Karachi and Port Moresby (in Papua New Guinea).
