Russia has gathered global attention by sending its advanced stealth fighter jet, the Sukhoi-57, to the ongoing Zhuhai Airshow in China. The Sukhoi-57 is one of Russia’s most advanced fighter jets, equipped with many high-tech gadgets. Notably, the Russian fighter jet arrived in China at a time when China is also working to establish its dominance in stealth aircraft technology. The Sukhoi-57’s presence at the Zhuhai Airshow was not well-received by some in China, sparking criticism on social media. However, the Sukhoi-57 responded to its critics by performing jaw-dropping aerial manoeuvres just before the start of the airshow. Russia is using the Zhuhai Airshow as an opportunity to showcase and promote its radar-evading Sukhoi-57, emphasizing it as the “only fifth-generation fighter jet.”
Russia claims its Sukhoi-57 can defeat Western air defence systems efficiently, particularly the Patriot system. Recently, Sergey Chemezov, General Director of Russia’s state-owned company Rostec, said that the export version of Sukhoi – Su-57E – will be showcased at the airshow in China. According to the Russian news agency TASS, Chemezov claimed that the fighter jet to be the only fifth-generation jet effective against Western defense systems like – Patriot, NASAMS, and IRIS-T.
Chemezov mentioned that the Su-57E had successfully completed missions in Ukraine and could launch advanced cruise missiles like the Kh-69. At the Zhuhai, the Sukhoi-57 is displaying its formidable power. The fighter jet is radar-resistant and loaded with an array of guided precision weapons, making it highly attractive to foreign buyers.
At the Chinese air show, a range of weapons are being put on display by Russia, one of which is the stealth cruise missile Kh-69. They’re targeting countries that are not particularly fond of the U.S., proposing this fighter jet for purchase. Earlier, the Sukhoi-57 was subjected to scorn by Chinese internet users, sceptics doubting its capabilities and making comparisons to China’s own J-20 fighter jet. Yet, recent displays of the Russian aircraft seem to have successfully addressed these prior doubts. Enhancing its credibility further, a video of the Sukhoi-57 in action has been released by the Chinese state media.
