Russia Ukraine War News Update: Amidst the possibility of an end to the nearly four-year-long Russia-Ukraine war, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is also playing a big game and has said that the agreement proposed in ongoing talks with US officials to end the war could be finalised within a few days. The US envoy will then submit it to the Russian President’s office in the Kremlin, and further meetings could take place in the US next weekend. After the talks in Berlin on Monday, Zelensky told reporters that the draft is not perfect, but very practical. However, he warned that some key issues—in particular the future of Russian-occupied Ukrainian territories—remain unresolved.
Meanwhile, the US-led peace efforts is accelerating, but the focus now shifts to Moscow. Russian President Vladimir Putin may object to proposals prepared by officials in Washington, Kyiv, and Western Europe, particularly regarding post-war security guarantees for Ukraine. Zelenskyy said, “After the Berlin talks, we are very close to agreeing on strong security guarantees.” An official from a NATO country, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the security proposal would be based on Western aid that would keep the Ukrainian army strong.
Ukraine running a secret weapons factory
Meanwhile, the BBC has published a report which says that Ukraine now plans its own security and is working on this. It has already begun work on this. It does not want to be completely dependent on the West, especially the US, for weapons. It is setting up its own weapons manufacturing factories so that it can deal with the Russian threat on its own. This report states that until now Ukraine was dependent on Soviet-era weapons, but now it has realized the need for modern weapons. Meanwhile, it has not received the expected assistance from Western countries. This is why it is setting up its own weapons factories.
US President Donald Trump had refused to provide Tomahawks to Ukraine. Flamingos have already been used in combat, although the company did not confirm specific targets. Deep strikes are important for Ukraine as it targets Russia’s war economy. According to General Oleksandr Syrsky, head of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, long-range strikes have cost the Russian economy more than $21.5 billion this year.
