Saudi Arabia, who recently vehemently opposed US President Donald Trump’s Gaza ‘relocation’ plan, and reiterated its support for an independent Palestinian state, has issued a scathing response to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over his recent remarks about establishing a Palestinian state within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
In an interview with Israel-based Channel 14, Benjamin Netanyahu had asserted that Saudi Arabia should establish a Palestinian state within its own borders, if the desert kingdom is so adamant on creating one. “Saudi Arabia has a lot of land, and its should establish a Palestinian state on this land, Netanyahu had said, while mocking calling the proposed state a “Saudi State”, instead of “State of Palestine”.
Responding to Netanyahu’s provocative comments, Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry Sunday condemned the Israeli Prime Minister’s remarks, and also lauded Riyadh’s “brotherly countries” for doing the same.
“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia appreciates the condemnation, disapproval and total rejection announced by the brotherly countries towards what Benjamin Netanyahu stated regarding the displacement of the Palestinian people from their land and the Kingdom values the positions that emphasize the centrality of the Palestinian issue to the Arab and Muslim countries,” the Saudi foreign ministry said in a statement.

Earlier, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) issued a strong condemnation and denunciation of “the reprehensible and provocative statements made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the establishment of a Palestinian state in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and affirmed its categorical rejection of these unacceptable statements, which constitute a blatant violation of international law and the United Nations Charter,” according to WAM, the Arab nation’s official news agency.
In a statement UAE’s Minister of State, Khalifa Bin Shaheen Al Marar, said that Abu Dhabi stands in “full solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and reaffirmed its unwavering position against all threats to the Kingdom’s security, stability and sovereignty.”
The minister stressed that the UAE considers Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty as an inviolable ‘red line’ that no country should undermine or violate.
Earlier this week, following Donald Trump’s announcement of US plans to “take over” Gaza, Saudi Arabia said it will not establish diplomatic ties with Jerusalem until the creation of an independent Palestinian state.
In a statement issued Wednesday, Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry stated that country’s stance on the establishment of a Palestinian state is “firm and unwavering” and recalled the statement made by Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud during his speech at the opening of the first session of the ninth term of the Shura Council on September 18 last year.
On February 4, US President Donald Trump announced that the United States will take over the Gaza Strip, dismantle dangerous weapons, get rid of the destroyed buildings and work for economic development of the area.
“The US will take over the Gaza Strip and we will do a job with it. We’ll own it and be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous unexploded bombs and other weapons on the site and getting rid of the destroyed buildings. Create an economic development that will supply unlimited numbers of jobs and housing for the people of the area,” Trump said at a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday (local time).
The US President also affirmed that the ongoing ceasefire-hostage deal between Israel and Hamas will be the beginning of a larger and more enduring peace.
“I’m hopeful that this ceasefire could be the beginning of a larger and more enduring peace that will end the bloodshed and killing once and for all. With the same goal in mind, my administration has been moving quickly to restore trust in the alliance and rebuild American strength throughout the region,” he added.
Arab nations have vehemently opposed Trump’s plan, calling it a covert method to carry out ethnic cleansing in the Gaza Strip. Trump has talked about relocating Gaza’s inhabitants to Egypt and Jordan, claiming that “everyone loves this plan”. However, both Egypt and Jordan have rejected Trump’s proposal, and reiterated support for the creation of a separate Palestinian state.
