Saudi Arabia is one of the richest oil-producing countries in the world, but the nation is facing a growing concern—its dependency on oil. With the possibility of declining oil revenues in the future, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) is investing a staggering USD 2 trillion to build an ultra-modern city called Neom. As part of this grand project, the Saudi government is constructing a luxurious royal palace within Neom, located along the breathtaking coast of the Red Sea.
In May 2024, Luxurylaunches revealed that a grand palace was planned within the massive, multi-trillion-dollar Line skyscraper in Neom. Now, nearly ten months later, satellite images from Maxar Technologies, obtained by Business Insider in January, confirm that construction is underway on this luxurious royal residence along the northeastern coast of Saudi Arabia, by the Red Sea.
The images reveal an extravagant estate featuring private beaches, lush gardens, a golf course, and 10 helipads. While specific details remain limited, Reuters had earlier reported that one of the first contracts for Neom included the development of five royal palaces about 105 miles west of Tabuk. The palaces are expected to showcase Moroccan-style architecture and may even include a marina, possibly to accommodate the prince’s luxurious Serene superyacht.
According to a Reuters report, this magnificent palace is expected to belong to Prince MBS himself. The report also suggests that the complex will house not just one but five luxurious royal palaces. The location of this massive complex is around 105 miles west of Tabuk.
Prince MBS envisions Neom as the future global hub for technology, innovation, and tourism. The goal is to diversify Saudi Arabia’s economy by reducing its dependence on oil and attracting international investment and tourists.
One of the most ambitious parts of Neom is The Line, a 110-mile-long vertical city. Originally planned for completion by 2030, new estimates suggest that it may take until 2045 to be fully realized.
Saudi Crown Prince MBS is known for his extravagant lifestyle. His lavish properties are not limited to Saudi Arabia—he owns a USD 300 million chateau in France and a USD 400 million superyacht. These are just a few examples of his global luxury investments.
Spanning 57 acres, it boasts 10 bedrooms, grand reception halls, a private cinema, two ballrooms, a nightclub, an aquarium, and even a wine cellar with space for 3,000 bottles.
Despite the grand vision and massive funding, Neom is struggling with financial challenges. The Saudi government has been pouring in money, but foreign investment remains slow. However, large-scale construction is still ongoing, with hopes of attracting global investors soon.
Neom is currently the biggest construction site on the planet. The first phase is expected to be completed by 2034. The project involves the use of hundreds of cranes and over 10,000 workers, making it one of the most ambitious urban development projects in history.
While Neom represents a bold vision for the future, only time will tell if it becomes the revolutionary success Saudi Arabia hopes for or an overly ambitious dream.
