New Delhi, July 29: Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, the former petroleum minister, will be the interim Prime Minister of Pakistan after Supreme Court disqualified Nawaz Sharif from Office for disclosing incorrect information on personal wealth and source of income in his 2013 election affidavit. In a high-level meeting chaired by ousted PM Nawa Sharif, the decision was taken by the members of ruling Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) until Shahbaz Sharif, the younger brother of deposed Sharif, is elected to the Parliament.

PML-N has a stronghold in the Parliament and can vote Shahbaz into office on its shoulders. Reportedly, the younger sibling of Nawaz is likely to content election for Assembly on the seat vacated by his brother, where PML-N enjoys massive support. The chief minister of Punjab-Shahbaz will have to vacate his seat in the Punjab Assembly and from a report of The Dawn, it has been learned that Mujtaba Shujaur, the Punjab Excise and Taxation Minister is the favourite to take his position.

A report of Times of India claims, for 45 days Shahid will serve at the interim PM and in the meanwhile, Shahbaz would make his way to the National Assembly. Earlier, there were reports of making former Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif as the interim PM. In two separate meetings which included one formal, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s name was finalised. In the formal meeting, big names like Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Ahsan Iqbal, Ayaz Sadiq, Saad Rafique, Rana Tanveer, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Shahbaz Sharif marked their presence.

The country is waiting for a formal announcement. On Friday, the highest court in the country disqualified 67-year-old Sharif on finding clear evidence in the Panama Papers. The court said he has been dishonest to office and people and has lost the right of holding such a high position. The decision of the Court was hailed by many including former Pakistani cricketer and chief of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-Imran Khan.

A six member Joint Investigation Team formed on the directions of Supreme Court took 60 days to trace out.  the truth. Investigations revealed offshore firms of Sharif’s children hold six homes in London.
