In a dramatic footage, Shalfalam bridge in Pakistan’s north Gilgit Baltistan area of north-west Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was washed away in the rains floods. Heavy rains triggered heavy landslides causing mass destruction in the area. 47 people were killed and 37 injured in the floods. Some other bridges in the area were also seriously damaged while some were completely destroyed.
Torrential rain and hailstorm in various provinces damaged standing crops also. The rains were accompanied by strong winds and thunder. The rains mainly affected the western and upper parts of Pakistan. (Also Read: Rains, floods kills 57 in North West Pakistan, PoK)
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province was worst-hit in the rains. At least eight people, including five children, were killed in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Gilgit Baltistan regions. Land slides also buried houses in the area. Floods also damaged Karakorum Highway between Gilgit and Chilas. Without the bridge, the vital land link with China has been broken. Following the floods, all the educational institutions have been ordered to close down. President Mamnoon Hussain expressed grief over the loss of lives and property in the torrential rains and directed the authorities to take all measures to help the affected people.
