New Delhi: The Shehbaz Sharif-led Pakistani government is now trying to reach out to countries that are supporting India. According to the reports, PM Sharif recently sent a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin. However, it is important to note that the contents of the letter are unclear. Pakistan has also decided to send delegations to both the United States and Russia amid the growing tensions with India.

Reports further suggest a Pakistani delegation met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. During the meeting, they also handed over a letter addressed to President Putin from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. It is being said that Pakistan is looking to strengthen its strategic relations with Russia. The Russian news agency has reported, “The Special Assistant has delivered a letter written by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to President Vladimir Putin.”

Pakistan’s Efforts

A delegation, led by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi, visited Moscow on June 2. However, details about the members of this delegation have not been disclosed. The Foreign Office stated that both delegations will participate in a series of meetings with international bodies, public officials, senior government officers, parliamentarians, think tanks, media representatives, and members of the diaspora community.

It said, “The purpose of these delegations’ visits is to present Pakistan’s perspective on India’s recent aggression.” It further stated that they would “also highlight the need to prioritize dialogue and diplomacy over conflict and confrontation.” According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, resuming the suspended Indus Waters Treaty immediately will also be a key focus of these visits.
