New Delhi: In Asia, Thai women are considered among the best-looking ladies. However, they are also subjected to numerous cases of exploitation. Every year, hundreds of Thai women, girls, and children fall victim to human trafficking. Recently, three Thai women have been rescued from the clutches of trafficking.
A human trafficking ring run by Chinese gangsters is operating in Georgia, according to a report by the Bangkok Post. On January 30, three Thai women trapped in the web of “human egg harvesting” were rescued. The rescue operation was carried out by Pavena Hongsakul, the founder of the Pavena Foundation for Children and Women.
Pavena stated that she was informed about the gang by a Thai woman who had escaped from them last September. This woman had to pay 175,000 baht to free herself from the gang.
Talking to Pavena, the victim said that several other women were trapped in this human egg farm due to financial constraints. Recalling her ordeal, she mentioned that she had seen a job advertisement on a Facebook page offering up to 1 lakh rupees. When she contacted the page, she was informed that the job was in Georgia and involved becoming a surrogate mother for couples who were unable to conceive.
The woman explained that the employer covered the expenses for her passport and travel. She, along with ten other women, traveled to Georgia under the leadership of a Thai woman who was a member of the gang. Upon arrival, they were taken to a large house, where 100 Thai women were already living.
The place was operated by Chinese gangsters, and shockingly, no one in Georgia had applied for a surrogate mother.
A woman revealed that they were given hormones to stimulate their ovaries. Once a month, they were sedated, and their eggs were collected. These eggs were then sold and trafficked abroad for IVF procedures. The women were not paid for this process. Currently, the police are investigating the matter.
According to the Pavena Foundation, 257 Thai citizens were victims of human trafficking in 2024. Among them, 53 were found within Thailand, while 204 were taken to other countries. The foundation has rescued 152 victims so far.
