Singapore: Minor fire at Changi Airport Terminal 2, evacuation undertaken, flights delayed

Although the fire was a minor one, such a small disruption will mean great delay of flight services in such a busy airport.

A minor fire broke out at the Terminal two of Changi Airport of Singapore today leading to evacuation of hundreds of people and delaying  several flight. The fire which was later extinguished also led officials to seal off the area. No casualty has been reported yet.

According to DNA, three people who were affected by the smoke that swept through the terminal were sent to hospital. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) successfully extinguished the fire and later posted the incident on their official Facebook page confirming that the fire was rather small and has been controlled and extinguished by them.

This caused disruption in services of several flights as many were delayed in this global hub. According to Singapore Airlines they were working closely with the airport authority and other agencies to make sure that flight services are resumed at the earliest. According to AFP, the scene at the airport was calm, only the departure and arrival halls were evacuated and there was no sign of panic.

The police stated that the fire alarm activated at around 5:40 pm as the smoke started pouring from air vents and soon the evacuation process was started followed by closure of the terminal.

Amid all this, the prime concern of many passengers were that their flights might get cancelled as there has been no correspondence with them from the airlines or airport authorities.  The Changi airport serves more than 100 flights to cities around the world.

Although the fire was a minor one, such a small disruption can mean great delay of flight services in such a busy airport. So if the authorities are indeed working their best and they will to get the services back on track, then perhaps the passengers have nothing much to fear, except delay by a few hours.

The cause of the fire has not yet been ascertained. Information on the cause will be updated soon.
