Police said today they had rescued 29 Chinese women who had been drugged and forced into prostitution in hotels and nightclubs across Spain in an operation that smashed a human trafficking ring.

Madrid, April 17: Police said today they had rescued 29 Chinese women who had been drugged and forced into prostitution in hotels and nightclubs across Spain in an operation that smashed a human trafficking ring.

Another 29 people were arrested as part of the operation carried out with the help of Chinese police, police said in a statement.

“The victims were forced to take drugs or medication to overcome their resistence to prostituting themselves in their homes, or hotels or nightclubs,” the statement said.(ALSO READ:Spanish police find cocaine paste hidden in furniture).

Police said further details would be given at a news conference in Madrid tomorrow. Just over 191,000 Chinese nationals live in Spain, making the Chinese immigrant population the fourth largest foreign community in the country, according to national statistics institute INE.
