'Start negotiations as soon as possible': Israel urges Lebanon to begin peace talks amid tensions

Israel-Lebanon talks: After the much-awaited ceasefire happened between the United States and Iran, Israel launched a massive attack on Lebanon, which led to the death of many individuals. Now, the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, wants the negotiations to start as soon as possible, as reported by Reuters.
Israeli PM's statement
"In light of Lebanon's repeated requests to open direct negotiations with Israel, I instructed the cabinet yesterday to start direct negotiations with Lebanon as soon as possible," said Benjamin Netanyahu in the statement.
He further added, "The negotiations will focus on disarming Hezbollah and establishing peaceful relations between Israel and Lebanon."
Israel attacks Lebanon
Israel conducted massive air strikes across Lebanon, which led to a high number of casualties. The hospitals in the region soon became jam-packed with injured patients. Many individuals were reportedly buried under the debris after the interceptions. Israel had targeted the Hezbollah command centres and military regions in 10 minutes in its largest air strikes. The strikes were carried out in the southern suburbs of Beirut, southern Lebanon and the eastern Bekaa Valley. The shocking part is that in Beirut alone, almost 91 people were killed.
Iran's response to Israel
Iran showed its support for Lebanon and mentioned that it stands with its Lebanese people.
"The repeated aggression by the Zionist entity against Lebanon is a flagrant violation of the initial ceasefire agreement and a dangerous indicator of deceit and lack of commitment to potential accords. The continuation of these aggressions will render negotiations meaningless; our hands will remain on the trigger, and Iran will never abandon its Lebanese brothers and sisters," wrote the Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian earlier on X.
Iran-US Ceasefire
The attacks come just hours after Iran and the United States reached a temporary ceasefire deal. The situation was escalating between the two countries from February 28, as the US and Israel attacked Iran, killing their supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Later, his son Mojtaba Khamenei was declared the new supreme leader of the Islamic Republic.
The tensions in West Asia resulted in the global oil disruptions as Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz, an integral global sea route.
Now, the Israeli PM's statement for beginning negotiation talks 'as soon as possible' may bring another development in solving the tensions.
