Damascus (Syria): A string of five explosions near the Mezzeh military air base shook the Syrian capital city of Damascus and lit the skies on Saturday night. The blasts took place around midnight. A video which was circulated last night showed a string of bright explosions lighting up the skies. A source close to the military air base said that the explosions didn’t come from inside the airport but from a nearby munitions depot. The sources at the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that the explosions happened at the military air base and were probably caused by Israeli missile strike. Another report, however, said that the emergency services, who were at the scene, said that the explosions were a result of the electrical short circuit.

In other reports, US President Donald Trump’s administration on Saturday decided to end all funding to the UN agency tasked with supporting Palestinian refugees and call for a large reduction in the number of Palestinians considered to be refugees.

A formal announcement with respect to the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), is expected in the next few weeks, a senior administration official told CNN late Friday.
