New Delhi: A total of 17 people were killed on Saturday after a Thai soldier opened fire at a huge crowd and went on a mass shooting rampage in several locations in the northeastern city of Korat in Thailand.
According to reports, the gunman also live-streamed the entire incident as he used a machine gun to shoot innocent victims. The police have identified the shooter as Sergeant Major Jakrapanth Thomma, who stole an army vehicle and also posted photos and videos of himself donning full gear, news agency AFP stated.
Video footage of the incident that has been shared on social media platforms showed panicked scenes as people ran around escaping the sound of the automatic machine gun.
A day earlier, Thomma had put up a Facebook post where he wrote: “Death is inevitable for everyone”.
Following the firing, the police closed off a Terminal 21 shopping mall in the area where he was last seen as the gunman remained at large. Further investigation is underway.
