Doha: If we talk about Middle Eastern countries, Qatar must be in the discussion as it is among the richest countries in the world. In recent years, Qatar has attracted several people because of its tax-free lifestyle and economic opportunities. Another major reason is the sense of security in the Middle Eastern country. But in recent months, security has been majorly affected, creating tension among the Qataris. But why has it happened? Let’s know.

Why Qatar Is Not Safe Anymore?

In June this year, when conflict started between Iran and the United States. The Middle Eastern country targeted an American base located in Qatar.

In September, Israel carried out an airstrike on Qatar’s capital Doha. In its response, Tel Aviv stated that it had targeted Hamas’ political leadership, which is a serious matter. However, this attack has drawn the attention of the entire Arab world along with Doha. Qatar, which has limited military strength, vowed to give a ‘collective’ regional response to Israel’s attacks.

Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani told CNN’s Becky Anderson recently that the response will be determined after consulting with allied countries. A decision regarding this matter is expected at the upcoming Arab and Islamic summit in Doha.

How Arab Countries Reacted To Israeli Airstrike?

Several Muslim countries, including Saudi Arabia have reacted strongly. United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan reached Doha within 24 hours of the attack. He then went to Bahrain and Oman.

CNN, citing regional experts, reported that Arab countries of the Gulf must be considering options that demonstrate regional unity.

Bader al-Saif, a history professor at Kuwait University, said, “We (gulf countries) need to take a stand now because if we don’t, the next step will be other Gulf countries.”

Gulf’s diplomatic options

As per experts, United Arab Emirates, as an option, can think about reducing its participation in the Abraham Accords. This clearly means that it can limit its diplomatic relations with Israel. Notably, the Abraham Accords normalise Tel Aviv’s diplomatic relations with three major Arab countries.

On Thursday, Qatar managed to secure a unanimous statement from the United Nations Security Council condemning the recent attack on its soil by Israel.

What Could Be The Economic Response?
