New Delhi: US president Donald Trump has made it clear that not a single penny will be given in the name of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). US Secretary of State Marco Rubio posted on X: “After 6 weeks of review, we are officially cancelling 83% of USAID programs. This is going to hurt countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh, because these countries were getting millions of dollars every year under USAID.
“So far, 5,200 contracts have been signed around the world, with billions of dollars spent. That money wasn’t necessary to America’s core national interests. In some cases, we were paying those who were doing our detriment. That is why we have decided to cancel 83% of the contracts.
Only those programmes will run that benefit America. The U.S. Secretary of State said that after discussions with Congress, we will try to continue the remaining 18% of the programmes. Under this, nearly 1000 programmes will be run by America. These will only be the programmes that also benefit America.
Marco Rubio stated that the DOGE team has worked hard on this task. They have identified the loopholes through which American money was flowing.

Under USAID, Bangladesh received 440 million dollars, Pakistan received 231 million dollars, and Sri Lanka received 123 million dollars. Now, with this aid coming to an end, many types of projects have been halted there. A significant amount of this money was allegedly spent on anti-India activities in Pakistan and Bangladesh.
