New Delhi: The Zhuhai Airshow 2024 is a big crowd puller from many countries, especially those in-charge of their respective defence departments. It has been making news even before it started on November 12.

China’s breakthrough military hardware products have created a sensation in the global arms and weapons market.

As reported before the starting of the Airshow, Russia’s Su-57 stealth fighter is also participating in the mega event. Both the fifth-generation Russian fighter jet and Chinese fifth-generation J-35 fighter jets have caught the world’s attention.

Russia shared information on its newest fighter aircraft at the Zhuhai Air Show on Friday, November 15. Chinese media were escorted by Russian personnel to the plane but were not allowed to see the jet’s internal cockpit, air intake, landing gear details, and engine interiors.

According to the report of The Week, the US landed the fifth generation multirole fighter aircraft Multirole F-35 in February last year at Bengaluru Air Base in India. The US also did not allow Indian officials to go near its fighter aircraft. Even in Zhuhai, the same pattern has been witnessed.

Russia has landed its latest state-of-the-art fighter Su-57 on Chinese soil for the first time, so it has taken precaution in not revealing much about it.

What’s special about the Su-57?

The Zhuhai Air Show has hosted different types of stealth fighters. These include Russian Sukhoi-57, Chinese J-35, and J-20. The participation of three stealth fighters shows the close bilateral relations and close military relations between Russia and China.

Russia has sent two Su-57s for the Zhuhai air show that started on November 12 and ends on November 17. One of the Su-57 is for flight performance and the other is for static exhibition.

A single-seat, twin-engine multipurpose fighter aircraft, the Su-57 can fly at twice the speed of sound and can carry a variety of weapons from missiles to rockets. The biggest advantage of this Russian aircraft is that it has performed brilliantly against state-of-the-art Western air defense systems.

The Russian unit authorized for military export and import has said that the first contract for the export version of the fifth-generation fighter jet Su-57 for foreign customers has been signed. However, they did not disclose the name of the buyer. China, on the other hand, has revealed two variants of the mass-produced J-20 as well as the J-35 (J-35 and J-35A). The double-engine J-35 is designed for air superiority roles, as well as surface attack capabilities.
