London, June 8: The residents of Northern Ireland were seen queueing to cast their votes in 18 constituencies. A total of 109 candidates are contesting amidst politically divided atmosphere. As per news reports, 619 Polling stations are open between 7 A.M and 10 P.M with the installed 1380 ballots boxes. In the previous general elections, DUP won eight seats, Sinn Fenn, the SDLP three, the UUP two and one independent unionist. The results are expected to be clear between 1: 30 A.M and 5: 30 A.M.
Once the polling ends, the ballot boxes will be transported to counting centres. Exit polls indicate a mild majority for the Conservative party over the labour party. However, the exit polls were rejected by many prominent political faces who said the large gatherings for the rallies showed a different mood sweeping across the country. The country, with Brexit Negotiations on the table, is also voting on the issues of National Health Scheme and abolishing the tuition fees across the country. The Exit polls suggest Labour Party struggling for the majority in the parliament. Leaders in the Northern Ireland are expecting an alliance between the Democratic Unionist Party and Conservative Party to negotiate Brexit terms with European Parliament.
A forecast by The Telegraph suggests the Conservative Party will win the elections with increased majority. The conservative party is likely to retain average voting intention of 42.9 points while the Labours may get 37.2 percent voters. Thus, the Tories may have a lead of 5.2 percent intent voters.
The Election results on Friday may prove pollsters wrong when they showed little chances for United States’ President Donald Trump victory in presidential elections.
