Washington, May 4: Republican front runner Ted Cruz on Wednesday quit the presidential race, leaving his supporters in shock, almost securing the nomination for Donald Trump. Cruz announced the suspension of his campaign, after losing in the Indiana primary, where Trump lead the race, way ahead of him and other Republican hopefuls. Cruz’s announcement has ended any real battle for the party’s presidential nomination. This comes as Trump’s victory in Indiana delivered a devastating blow to his campaign.
According to reports, Cruz had pinned his hopes on the win in Indiana, to boost his campaign, ahead of he party’s convention in July. But Trump maintained his spree of five straight wins in states in the north east, and pocketed the win in Indiana too. Cruz had been the only candidate to successfully fight the businessman out, from amongst several more experienced politicians and newbies alike. But he hadn’t been doing well lately, with no victories being registered in his name, in an entire month.
