Washington: US Senator Bernie Sanders on Tuesday announced he will be running for the post of president in 2020. 77-year-old Sanders made the announcement through a radio interview in Vermont, as per reports.
The democratic socialist is all set to take on President Donald Trump and the Republicans in 2020. Besides, Sanders gave an outline of how he will campaign. He said that he will carry the virtues that people of Vermont had– that is, a belief in justice, in the community, in grassroots politics, in town meetings amongst several others.
Sanders also mocked Trump calling him a ‘national embarrassment and a pathological liar’.
“I also think he is a racist, a sexist, a homophobe, a xenophobe, somebody who is gaining cheap political points by trying to pick on minorities, often undocumented immigrants,” Sanders said.
Sanders had made an unsuccessful bid for the presidency in 2016. He lost to Hillary Clinton, who was in turn defeated by Donald Trump.
Sanders served in the House until 2006 when he was elected to the US Senate. He was re-elected in 2012 and 2018.
