Karachi, October 21: In a shocking incident, a Pakistani journalist was slapped by a Pakistani Frontier Corps personnel, live on national television. The man, who is deployed with the country’s paramilitary police force Frontier Constabulary (FC) slapped the Karachi based journalist, while she was reporting outside the National Database and Registration Authority office in Nazimabad. The video of the incident, which was also aired live on Pakistani channel K-21, was uploaded of social media and has gone viral ever since. The video shows the reporter reprimanding the man for bothering her camera man. Angered by his physical manhandling of her channel’s camera person, the reporter tried to capture the man’s face and shame him for misbehaving with media personnel. She relentlessly pursues the man, as he tries to move away from the camera after some time. Eventually, she screams at him and scolds him for his behavior, after which the man violently attacks the woman. The video captured the attack, after which the journalist fell to the ground. After the video went viral on Facebook and Twitter in Pakistan, the Karachi police took note of the incident and registered a complaint against the man. The police man has been booked for outraging the modesty of a woman and aerial firing. The journalist who was assaulted has been identified as Saima Kanwal of K-12 news channel. Kanwal also posted the footage of the discarded bullets from the shots fired by the police man, after he assaulted her. She posted the video on her Twitter handle. She has faced criticism too, with a lot of people pointing out that she was attacked, because she was being ‘aggressive’ . Kanwal responded to the criticism in a tweet, where she said that the police man who assaulted her, was misbehaving with old people outside the office and was also using abusive language with them. She said that this was why she reported on the matter. She is heard saying in the video,”If they (policemen) can behave in this manner with the media, then you can only imagine, how they must be behaving with the public.” Kanwal can be seen in the video, asking the camera man to focus on her attacker’s face, which many pointed out, was the reason that she was attacked.
