‘We faced worst defeat in Syria…’ Iran top general admits defeat for…, accuses Russia of helping…
Iranian Brigadier General Behrouz Esbati shared his views during a speech at an event at a mosque in Tehran. He also stated that while Iran is not in a position to have a direct confrontation with Israel, he assured the citizens that the nation has not lost everything, as its missiles are still capable of reaching Israel.
A top Iranian general admitted that they were ‘badly defeated’ in Syria, citing the failures of Bashar al-Assad and Russia as contributing factors.
According to a report published in The Times, Esbati was a senior commander in Syria, where he was leading the Iranian forces. He had worked alongside Russian generals, as well as Syrian ministers and top commanders. However, his statement is being seen as ‘rare,’ as it marks an admission by a high-ranking security official about the failure of his own country, which is ruled by Ali Khamenei.
Iranian president Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian and his leaders downplayed Syria’s defeat but now the country’s top general’s admission put the regime red-faced.
When Esbati was asked why Iran would not attack the bases of the United States in the region, he said that the regular missiles of Iran could not penetrate their advanced air defence system.
He said the fall of Syria was inevitable because corruption had become rampant in the country. He said people were witnessing an economic crisis under Assad’s regime.
