Aimee Harris, a Floridian lady, was handed a one-month jail term plus three months of house arrest due to her role in the pilfering and peddling of Ashley Biden’s diary in April, 2023. Ashley is recognized as the daughter of President Joe Biden and was convicted of stealing and selling the personal diary of Ashley Biden to the right-wing group Project Veritas about four years ago.

In the heat of the 2020 presidential race, Aimee Harris found herself attempting to peddle Ashley Biden’s personal memories and thoughts to the campaign of then-president Donald Trump, who was contending with Ashley’s father for the presidency. As remorse washed over her in a Manhattan federal courtroom, Harris confessed to her regret for passing Ashley Biden’s diary to the right-leaning Project Veritas, an act which laid bare some very private parts of Biden’s life and childhood.

The mother-of-two pleaded guilty to a conspiracy charge in August 2022, admitting that she received $20,000 (£15,765) of the $40,000 (£31,530) that was paid by Project Veritas for the stealing and handing over the diary of Biden’s daughter.

Origin of Biden’s daughters diary

The origin of the diary traces back to 2020 when Harris stumbled upon it, alongside other possessions, in a dwelling of a friend in Delray Beach, Florida.

Assistant US attorney Robert Sobelman said Harris stole the diary, a digital storage card, books, clothing, luggage and “everything she could get her hands on” in the hopes she “could make as much money as she could”.

Swan, the judge on the case, handed down a prison sentence of one month to Harris, followed by three months of house arrest—for her theft crimes, which he deems “utterly reprehensible.” It emerged during sentencing that Harris, along with her partner-in-crime, Robert Kurlander from Jupiter, Florida, initially attempted to pawn off Ms. Biden’s belongings to the Trump 2020 campaign. Judge Swan, quite tersely, suggested that Harris’ actions were fueled by unrelenting greed and had an ulterior motive—shaping the country’s political landscape.

Defense lawyer Anthony Cecutti insisted that Harris should avoid jail time, pointing out her past suffering and the vital role she plays in her children’s well-being, all while overcoming the scars left by past abuses and violence.

“She carries the shame and stigma of her actions,” he said.
