US President Donald Trump announced that his “good friend” Sergio Gor will be the next US Ambassador to India and also the special envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs. Gor, who is known to be a close ally of Trump and an influential figure in the White House, is currently serving as the director of the Presidential Personnel Office. Trump said Gor will continue in this role until the Senate confirms his appointment. Once confirmed, Gor will take over from Eric Garcetti as the US Ambassador to India.
“I am pleased to announce that I am promoting Sergio Gor to be our next United States Ambassador to the Republic of India, and Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs. As Director of Presidential Personnel, Sergio and his team have hired nearly 4,000 America First Patriots across every Department of our Federal Government in RECORD time — Our Departments and Agencies are over 95% filled! Sergio will remain in his current role at the White House until his confirmation,” the US President’s post read.
Trump praised Gor as a “great friend” who has supported him for many years. He said Gor helped run his “historic presidential campaigns,” published his best-selling books, and managed one of the largest Super PACs backing his movement.
Trump also highlighted Gor’s work as the Director of Presidential Personnel, calling it a key part of fulfilling the “unprecedented mandate” given to him by the American people.
“For the most populous region in the world, I need someone I can completely trust to carry out my agenda and help us MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN,” Trump said. “Sergio will be an outstanding ambassador. Congratulations, Sergio!”
Sergio Gor, originally named Sergio Gorokhovsky, was born on November 30, 1986, in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. He studied at George Washington University, where he became active in the College Republicans and later supported Senator John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign. Over the years, he also worked as a spokesperson for representatives Michele Bachmann, Steve King, and Randy Forbes.
In May 2013, Gor took on the role of Communications Director for RANDPAC, the political action committee of Senator Rand Paul.
Outside of politics, Gor developed close ties with the Trump family. He co-founded Winning Team Publishing with Donald Trump Jr., which has published several books about Donald Trump, such as Letters to Trump, Our Journey Together, and Save America. He also reportedly led the Right for America political action committee in support of Trump.
In November 2024, Trump appointed Gor as the Director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office.
The New York Times once described Sergio Gor as someone “valued by the president for his loyalty,” but also criticized him as being “capricious” in his decision-making. Reports suggest that Gor had conflicts with billionaire adviser Elon Musk, who was leading cost-cutting efforts in the administration. Their disagreements reportedly led to a fallout between Musk and Trump. The feud became so intense that Musk later called Gor “a snake” on social media.
Once confirmed, Gor will replace Eric Garcetti, who served as US Ambassador to India from May 11, 2023, to January 20, 2025. Before Garcetti, Kenneth Juster held the position from November 23, 2017, to January 20, 2021.
