New Delhi, June 21: On International Yoga Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the US’ first wellness centre via video conferencing. A gift from ‘Bharat to the US’, as Essel Group Chairman Dr. Subhash Chandra put it, YO1 wellness centre is spread over 400,000 sq. ft. Derived from Sanskrit word ‘Yauvan’ or youthfulness, the centre has Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Acupunture and Physiotherapy as part of its facilities. Addressing the gathering, Modi said yoga has no religion.

He said yoga is a binding force, and he was hopeful it would bring the world together. Modi said it was the fourth International Yoga Day today and in the past three years, it had become a mass movement. Calling it a philosophy, Modi said yoga wasn’t just about asanas or chanting of some mantras. He said it brought about changes in lifestyle, changes which lasted a lifetime. ”Yoga symbolises connection. I am happy that the Essel Group has chosen the International Day of Yoga for the inauguration of the YO1 wellness centre,” he said.

Earlier, speaking on the occasion,  Finance Minister, NYC State Controller Tom Dinapoli said, “It gives us hope when entrepreneurs come from outside and invest in our county.” A dream project of Dr Chandra, the centre is built on the Catskill Mountain in southeastern New York. It will provide employment to at least 500 people and indirect employment to more than 1,500 people. Applauding the effort, the New York State Assembly honoured Dr. Chandra on Wednesday evening, on the eve of International Yoga Day.
